Connecting Brandt and Gee

  1. Sponsor: One who assumes responsibility for another person or group.

Although my aunt (Debby) wasn’t in the Discourse of writing/ reading and literacy, she had enough knowledge to become a sponsor for me to educate me and to guide me to gain tools to further my progress in understanding literacy (how to read and write).

” After hours and hours of listening to my aunt read and show me these detailed pictures I slowly started to understand the relationship with words and pictures.” ( Seltenreich Narrative)

Agent: One who acts as the representative of another, one who acts or exerts power. (something that causes a change)

Regulate: To control or direct according to rule principle or law. To adjust to  specification or requirement. To adjust for accurate and proper functioning.

My aunt had a big influence on me and my view towards literacy. The way she “molded” or regulated me was the best way she knew how, and it worked out better than she could have thought. I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my education and in life if it wasn’t for her.

“After she was done reading the passage to me, she would show me all of the pictures that were related to that passage. She would describe to me in great detail what is happening in these pictures and also how the words relate to the picture. At first I had no idea what I was looking at and even when she would try to describe to me the words and their correlation with the pictures” (Seltenreich Narrative)

Suppress: To put an end to something by force.
