King/Alexie Annotations

The piece by Alexie, i thought was very powerful. One thing that jumped out at me in this piece is how he is picking up books before he can even read and finding ways to understand it. He goes on to say that he remembers picking up one of his fathers books and he couldn’t read the words but at that moment, looking at the text he suddenly realized the purpose of a paragraph. What i really found interesting is how he brought that “paragraph” idea into the real world and his life. He say “I began to think of everything in terms of paragraphs, our Reservation was a small paragraph within the United States”.

Another reason i thought this piece was very powerful is the fact that Alexie becomes this amazing writer who visits schools on the reservation. Tho the wanted to be a pediatrician, Alexie still found a way to help impact and essentially save these Indian kids living on these reservations. “The door holds. I am smart. I am arrogant. I am lucky. I am trying to save our lives.”
